Global electronics and tech company, Samsung has unboxed its much-anticipated artificial intelligence television (AI TV) in Nigeria. The event, tagged Unbox and Discover, took place in Lagos and provided a closer look at its 2024 TV lineup of devices, showcasing an array of televisions including the latest Neo QLED 8K and 4K, OLED TVs.

Speaking at the event, Head of Retail at Samsung West Africa, Moses Oyebade said the company is presenting the Samsung Neo QLED 8k TV which actually redefines how you experience visual experience.

The Samsung AI TV has features that work in three different areas: First is the AI picture, AI sound and the AI optimization. At the heart of all this is the super powerful processor that powers all these features called the NQ-AI Gen 3 processor which actually defines all the things happening on this tube. This processor has been upgraded with 512 neural networks that define how this device customizes and gives you a better experience. So it is twice faster compared to what we had before so it gives you wonderful pictures and very good sound,” he said.

Samsung has also partnered with Dolby Atmos for the latest AI TV’s sound expression. Describing the product of this partnership, Trainer for Consumer Electronics, Doighe Abigail said the partnership has led to great sound experiences that bring whatever you are watching to life. Describing it to this reporter she said:

We also partnered with Dolby Atmos to give you a sound experience that brings your content to life. It’s more like you’re in your living room watching a scene where rain is falling and it feels like the rain is actually falling in your living room. So that is what you get because of Dolby Atmos. You can see a situation whereby there is an echo at one part of the screen and as the echo moves to the other part of the screen, the sound follows the echo. That is more true to life than anything you will see out there.”

More on the latest Samsung AI TV

Samsung 2024 AI TV offers a next-level home entertainment experience with advanced processors and powerful, AI-driven features.

The Neo QLED 8K stands as the flagship of Samsung’s latest TV lineup, equipped with the advanced NQ8 AI Gen3 processor and marking a significant leap in AI TV technology. This processor features a Neural Processing Unit (NPU) that delivers twice the speed of its predecessor, along with an eightfold increase in neural networks from 64 to 512 — ensuring an exceptional viewing experience with crisp details, regardless of the input source.

The Neo QLED 8K’s AI-driven picture technology brings out the finest details with outstanding clarity and naturalness, from facial expressions to the subtlest nuances. With 8K AI Upscaling Pro, users’ favourite shows and movies are transformed to closely match the 8K display, allowing them to enjoy the level of detail and picture clarity that surpasses conventional 4K TVs.

Additionally, AI Motion Enhancer Pro makes fast action smoother and clearer — a dream for sports fans. All these features come together to redefine the big screen experience, setting a new standard in visual immersion. For Gaming, the AI Auto Game Mode kicks in, optimizing the visuals and audio for an even more immersive and engaging gaming experience.

AI Energy Mode is an interesting feature that saves power without compromising picture quality. These features ensure that the Samsung Neo QLED 8K is easy, personalized, and energy-efficient for all entertainment needs.

Samsung’s latest TVs are designed to connect with a smart ecosystem immediately upon setup. The moment users turn on their new Samsung TV, it recognizes and connects to existing networks and devices, all orchestrated through a simple notification on users’ smartphones. This effortless setup extends to all Samsung devices at home as well as third-party appliances and IoT devices, thanks to its compatibility with HCA and Matter. This eliminates the need for extra hubs, so everything from lighting to security sensors can be managed directly from the screen.

Samsung’s 2024 screen lineup also brings integration with users’ smartphones to new heights. Users can simply bring their smartphone near the TV to activate Smart Mobile Connect, which turns the device into a universal remote for the TV and connected home appliances. Additionally, in 2024, users can use their smartphones as game controllers with a customizable user interface (UI) and haptic feedback, offering convenient and enhanced gameplay at their fingertips.

With such a robust digital television, exposure to cyber threats and breaches becomes a problem. Asked by this reporter how this would be handled, Doighe Abigail says the company’s Knox security architecture would deal with such threats.

“The Knox security is actually a multi-layered security that cannot be breached. Even if one layer is breached, before the hacker could get to the user information the system shuts down automatically. Knox security can also kick out unauthorized users and keep them out. It also provides security for any other device connected to the Samsung AI TV which makes it a robust security for all products connected to the TV. So you can connect the Samsung TV to any device without fear of breach or attack,” she said.

The latest Samsung AI TV is available in two models, QN900D and QN800D, and in sizes of 65, 75, and 85 inches, the Neo QLED 8K lineup promises an unparalleled viewing experience that sets new standards in the premium large-screen category.
