Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner is facing the sack, with his side one of four teams that are yet to win a league game this season.

Palace have equalled their worst ever start to a Premier League campaign and have scored just five goals, making them the league’s lowest scorers. As a result, Glasner is under huge pressure to turn things around.

According to the Guardian, his fate will likely be determined by Palace’s results before next month’s international break, meaning he has four games to save his job. Those include a Carabao Cup clash against Aston Villa and league meetings with Tottenham, Wolves and Fulham.

The report states former Brighton boss Graham Potter and ex-West Ham manager David Moyes are among the potential targets for Palace if they decide to sack Glasner. Former Palace defender and ex-England boss Gareth Southgate is also mentioned, although he has said he does not intend to take another managerial role for at least a year.

“I won’t coach in the next year, for sure,” Southgate insisted earlier this month. “I’m certain of that. I need to give myself time to make good decisions. When you come out of a really big role you need to give your body time, you need to give your mind time.”

Palace are said to have concerns about Glasner’s ‘inflexibility over his favoured 3-4-2-1 system’, with the club struggling to fill the void left by Michael Olise after the former Reading star made a big-money move to Bayern Munich over the summer.

“Everybody is frustrated, disappointed and it’s our responsibility, especially mine, to get the chin and head up of every player,” Glasner admitted. “I don’t think it’s a tactical problem, it’s a mentality problem, it’s a lack of confidence and so this is what we have to change.

“There is no button that we can press to forget it but the passion and hard-working mentality, all the players in the dressing room are disappointed but no one blamed each other, now is time to support each other.

“We saw it (against Nottingham Forest) and the last games, we always have an XG higher than one but don’t score. We have good chances but the more we miss the more the confidence goes down. We are the only ones that can help ourselves.”
