Emile Heskey’s son Reigan blitzed an incredible 22-minute hat-trick for Manchester City against Norwich City in the Premier League 2 on Friday as they romped to a 5-0 win.
The 16-year-old is emerging as the next big star at the Etihad as he looks to follow in the footsteps of his father – who scored 171 times in his career for teams like Leicester City, Liverpool, Aston Villa and England.
He already made headlines after scoring on his UEFA Youth League debut for City against Young Boys last year and continues to go from strength to strength, with his manager Ben Wilkinson tipping him for big things.
“He’s got an unbelievable chance to be a top player,” said Wilkinson, speaking to City’s website. “He has a lot of attributes you’d look for in someone of his position.
“To come on in an EDS game as a 16-year-old and score a hat-trick isn’t something you see very often. Our job is to steer him in the right direction over the next couple of years and not let him get too high in these moments.”
Heskey Jr – who only came on at half time before his magnificent treble – opted to stay modest after his efforts. “It was a good performance,” he said. “I came on and made an impact which is what I try to do every time so it was a good performance.
“Every team wants to be top [of the table], you want to win every game week in, week out. The pressure of having them [other teams] behind us gives us motivation to play well every week.”
Heskey also plays in City’s youth team with his 18-year-old brother Jaden, who scored for the team in their 4-0 FA Youth Cup final victory over Leeds last season.
Their father picked up 62 caps for England, scoring seven times, and became a cult figure during his nearly two decades in the Premier League.
He started his career with Leicester City and went on to play for Liverpool 223 times, scoring 60, before spells with Birmingham, Wigan and Aston Villa. He rounded off his career in Australia with the Newcastle Jets before returning to the UK with Bolton.
