Kansas City mayor Quinton Lucas has praised Jason Kelce for “standing up for his family” after the former Philadelphia Eagles center was caught on video throwing a fan’s phone following a homophobic insult aimed at his brother, Travis Kelce.

The incident, which took place outside Beaver Stadium in Pennsylvania, quickly spread across social media platforms. A clip shows a fan provoking the 36 year old with offensive language concerning his younger brother and Taylor Swift, prompting an angered response from the retired NFL star.

In the footage, the heckler is heard shouting: “Hey, Kelce, how does it feel your brother’s a f—— dating Taylor Swift? “, leading to Kelce tossing the fan’s phone onto the ground. He then picks it up, retorts: “Who’s the f—— now? ” and walks away.

Mayor Lucas has now stepped into the controversy, commending Jason Kelce’s stance against the derogatory remarks about his brother.

On Twitter/X, he commented: “I shouldn’t say, but whatever. I appreciate Jason Kelce standing up for his family.” The Daily Mail has reported that Travis Kelce and his girlfriend Taylor Swift were “shocked” by the unpleasant event, citing a source close to them stating: “Taylor and Travis were both really shocked by this considering Jason is one of the nicest guys in the world.”

The insider added: “It really became clear how much he loves and respects Taylor,” and emphasized, “Travis means the world to him. The use of the word is not okay with him nor anyone. This fan crossed the line. Jason will never stand for anyone insulting his family and he views Taylor as family now.”

On social media, the politician’s stance resonated positively, with supporters applauding his actions. One user expressed admiration, commenting: “It’s great to see Jason Kelce prioritising his family’s support—definitely commendable.”

Another individual commented on the situation with approval, saying: “Nah, more people should say that it’s good to stand up for your family and to stand against someone using slurs like that. He did it in a way that caused no bodily harm/assault, yet left no question that this wouldn’t stand and stopped the guy’s behavior instantly. Good job Jason.”
