Ryan Giggs was spotted in the Salford City dugout during their FA Cup win at the weekend with the Welshman becoming increasingly present on the bench.

Earlier this year, Giggs took up the position of director of football at Salford, marking his return to football having stepped down as the Wales head coach. Previously he had sat in the stands, but has become more and more hands-on.

Giggs was alongside manager Karl Robinson during the win over Shrewsbury Town at the weekend. He was also on the pitch during the warm-up when the The Ammies drew with Fleetwood Town days before their FA Cup clash.

The Sun reports that the former Manchester United winger is looking to get more involved in the football side of the club having been a coach for several years following his retirement. Giggs is a co-owner of the League Two side alongside several of his former team-mates.

Gary Neville, Phil Neville, Nicky Butt and Paul Scholes are all investors in the club and have played roles within the club. Scholes had led the first-team several years ago when they were looking for a new manager.

Giggs was the Wales boss when they played at Euro 2020 and was also an assistant at Old Trafford during the Louis van Gaal regime. Prior to that he had taken caretaker charge of the Red Devils when they sacked David Moyes back in 2014.

Since landing promotion to the football league back in 2019 Salford have been through four permanent managers with Robinson now the fifth man tasked with getting them into the third tier.

Graham Alexander got them promoted via the National League play-offs but was surprisingly sacked early in his third season. Richie Wellens, Gary Bowyer and Neil Wood have all been shown the boot since then. Wood was the only manager to make the play-offs with Salford.

The League Two club announced at the end of February that they had launched “a process to explore new strategic partners for the club to support its ambitious growth targets”. Gary Neville bought fellow co-owner Peter Lim’s stake in August, making him the majority shareholder.
