Jerry Jones delivered a heartfelt message to Dallas Cowboys supporters following another defeat on Sunday, which saw the team’s record dip to 3-5 for the season.

After the Cowboys’ 27-21 loss to Kirk Cousins’ Atlanta Falcons, marking their third consecutive NFL defeat, any late-season surge seems increasingly unlikely. The situation was exacerbated when star quarterback Dak Prescott exited the game with injuries, leaving the team in a bind.

Adding to the woes, star receiver CeeDee Lamb sustained an injury in the final quarter, complicating an already challenging season for Dallas. Amid the adversity, Jones offered a ray of hope as the Cowboys look to salvage what’s left of the season.

Addressing the media post-game, Jones expressed his regret and optimism. “I really regret this for all of our Dallas Cowboys fans,” said the 82 year old owner.

“We’ll tell you this that I’ve been around. I’ve seen Michael Irvin tear up and cry when he couldn’t lose anybody because he’s just recovering from knee surgery. Yet his — came back and led the team to three Super Bowls. I know you can be there if you’re there. That room’s full of guys that can get it done. I believe in ’em, coaches and all.”

Despite Jones’ confidence, the Cowboys face an uphill battle, historically speaking. Dallas has only once managed to reach the playoffs after a 3-5 start, which occurred in 2018 following the acquisition of standout Amari Cooper.

Cowboys’ guard Zack Martin, one of the five remaining players from the 2018 squad, has expressed his belief that the team can replicate their previous success. Speaking to reporters post-match, the 33-year-old emphasised the importance of locker room unity and self-belief.

“Absolutely that’s what we want to do,” Martin said regarding making the playoffs, according to ESPN. “I’ve said this before, there’s absolutely no secret to this thing. It’s right back to work and we just got to get our confidence back and go in there with some swag and expect to win.”

Martin also highlighted the need for deep introspection among the team members for any potential turnaround. He believes that while the Cowboys have the necessary personnel for a long run, they must understand that they cannot afford to make mistakes. “I mean, we’ve got the guys in here,” he continued.

“We’ve just got to take ownership of this thing as players, and we’ve got to go out there and execute plays better. We can’t beat ourselves and put ourselves in a hole. Our margin for error is too small for that. Back to work. And everything we still want to do is in front of us, right? We’ve got a lot of division games coming up, and we’ve got to get one and get on a roll.”

Although Martin is optimistic about the Cowboys’ prospects, Prescott was unable to hide his feelings about the team’s performance against the Falcons. While watching from the sidelines, cameras caught Prescott delivering a brutally honest evaluation of the Cowboys’ display that evening. “We ——- suck,” Prescott was filmed appearing to be saying.
