Arsenal defender Jurrien Timber has claimed the team need more luck in front of goal after losing 1-0 to Inter Milan – the second straight game they have failed to score in.

Hakan Calhanoglou’s first half penalty – Inter’s only shot on target – was enough to give the Italian side all three points at the San Siro and leave Arsenal rueing their failure to turn dominance into goals.

Kai Havertz arguably had Arsenal’s best chance of the game as the ball fell to him inside the six-yard box – only to see his shot deflected wide.

Timber feels if they can up the ante in front of goal then Arsenal can soon turn a corner, as he conceded it was a frustrating night.

“It’s very tough,” he said. “Very frustrating for us. I think we played a good game, we dominated a lot but we didn’t score. In the Champions League, you have to score if you want to win. It’s a tough away game and small moments can decide a game.

“At the end, we felt confident, we had a couple of tough matches.. On Sunday will be tough again but I believe in our squad, we have a lot of quality, just need a little bit of luck in scoring more goals. have a lot of trust in our team and we’ll be fine for sure.”

His optimism for the Chelsea game aligned with Arteta, who said he was confident his side could go to Stamford Bridge and win if they put the same level of performance against Inter.

“We should have scored a couple at least but the way the team played, that was us at least. Every decision in the box makes a difference,” the Arsenal manager told TNT Sports. “The way we played tonight, this team can go to Chelsea and win.”

“I am very proud of my players, the level of domination we had,” Arteta, who was shown a yellow card during the match, declared. “We were very harshly done by in the sense that is obvious. Both penalties.”

Arsenal’s blip in form has seen them fall to fifth in the Premier League, with the team now seven points behind leaders Liverpool after losing two of their last three league matches.
