Arsenal have had a big-money bid for Aston Villa star Jhon Duran rejected as Mikel Arteta’s search for goals goes on.

The Gunners have struggled to find the net over recent weeks – losing their last two games 1-0 to Newcastle and Inter Milan. And Arsenal have already turned their attentions to the January transfer window in an effort to rectify their goalscoring issue.

As per reports in Colombia, the North London side have lodged a £46m offer for Villa striker Duran. They are not the only Premier League side interested, though, with Chelsea and West Ham also suitors of the young forward.

But Villa are very keen to keep a hold of him. Duran, 20, has scored eight goals in all competitions this season despite having made just three starts and is very highly-rated at Villa Park.

He also signed a new deal only last month that is set to keep him at the club until 2030. As such, Antena 2 report that Villa very quickly rebuffed Arsenal’s offer for the former Chicago Fire forward.

The player himself has also underlined his commitment to the Midlands club over recent days. Speaking in an interview with Villa’s official website, he said: “There’s always a new level to reach, and I hope we can achieve it. [My objective is] To keep working, contributing to the team, the club.

“[I want to] Continue being in the top part of the table and, well, that’s all. Above all, I want to help the team and then the goals will follow. I’m happy with how we’ve started, and I hope we continue like this.”

It appears that Arsenal’s club chiefs are not the only ones impressed. Former Arsenal captain Patrick Vieira recently claimed that he would be an ideal signing for the Gunners.

Speaking to bettingexpert.com, the legendary ex-midfielder said: “I loved his performance against Bayern Munich. He’s the right player for Arsenal – quick, unselfish, solid in the air, technically skilled, and intelligent in his movement.”

Duran will be aiming to extend his electric form this weekend for Unai Emery’s side. Villa travel to Anfield for a clash with Liverpool on Saturday evening.

Mikel Arteta will also be hoping his side rediscover their goalscoring touch as they travel to Stamford Bridge for a showdown with Chelsea. Following those games, Duran is expected to join up with Colombia for their upcoming fixtures against Uruguay and Ecuador.
