Thomas Tuchel is said to have reassured Marcus Rashford that he will play a significant role for England under him despite his omission from the latest squad.
The Manchester United forward, 27, endured a difficult 2023/24 campaign and was subsequently left out of the party that reached the Euro 2024 final last summer by former boss Gareth Southgate.
But Rashford has seemingly been handed an olive branch by England’s new head coach after registering seven goal contributions already this term for the Red Devils.
Tuchel was confirmed as Southgate’s successor last month and will officially get to work in 2025. And he has already reached out to Rashford to indicate that the Manchester United academy graduate will be in his plans.
A source revealed details of the conversation to The Sun, saying: “Tuchel contacted Marcus and his representatives and told them he saw Marcus as an essential part of the England squad.
“He said he believed a big part of England’s failure to win Euro 2024 was not having Marcus as an option. Other teams fear his abilities and Tuchel said he believed without Rashford, England didn’t offer a strong attacking threat on the left and that made them easier to play against as a lot of the ball came down the right.
“Tuchel is a huge admirer of Marcus. It’s a great boost for him and another encouragement to try and get back to his best.”

Rashford was not named in the England squad for this month’s Nations League fixtures by interim head coach Lee Carsley, who will stand aside after next week’s double-header against Greece and the Republic of Ireland.
He will also be working under a new head coach at Old Trafford with Ruben Amorim poised to replace Erik ten Hag at the helm on Monday. But Paul Scholes has questioned whether the Portuguese coach will find a place for Rashford given he utilises a 3-4-3 formation.
Scholes told TNT Sports: “There are three or four players, especially forward players, who don’t want to do the ugly side of the game. He’s going to have to make them do that. We talk about the back three, we have six centre-halves they can choose from.
“ He has got the two central midfielders in Casemiro and [Manuel] Ugarte. It’s the wingbacks that could be the problem. Does he want wingers who are going to run back? If he wants that, I’m not sure Rashford and Garnacho are right for that. Does he want two wing-backs in Dalot and Mazraoui who might be a little bit better defensively but not as good going forward? ”
