LIV Golf’s CEO Greg Norman seems to have let slip about the league’s potential plans to take the circuit and their season-ending Team Championship to Japan in 2026.

The breakaway league announced a whole host of changes to their schedule earlier this week, most notably adding two new events for 2025. As well as introducing a first-ever event in Indianapolis, the Saudi-funded circuit will also be venturing further into Asia, with a first event in South Korea.

Norman, who has long been an advocate for expanding men’s professional golf globally, is evidently making good on his promise by adding the South Korean event to the LIV calendar.

But it appears he is not stopping there, made clear by his recent meeting with Japan Golf Tour’s chairman Yutaka Morohoshi. Posting a snap on Instagram with Morohoshi, Norman wrote: “The podium of world golf = Playing, designing golf courses and promoting the game globally has been and is an honor.

“Now I’m grateful to be working in expanding @livgolf_league into the podium of golf. And to think 22 of the top 50 woman golfers are from! ! Thank you @japangolftour Chairman Morohoshi san (a friend for 30+ years) @kpga_official Incheon Mayor Yoo Jeong-bog @mek227 @ironheadsgc_ Jack Nicklaus Golf Club Incheon @livgolf_league for the past few days.”

In a surprising slip though, Norman may have inadvertently revealed plans for a LIV Golf event in Japan by 2026. The CEO was caught on camera with a backdrop that read: “LIV Golf Japan.” The screen detailed an “Opportunity to launch LIV Golf in Japan starting in 2026, either as a regular season event or season-ending LIV Golf Team Championship.”

Although Norman appears to have since removed the post, the leak has made its way around social media. Amidst speculation about the future of the league, Norman’s own as come in to question in recent weeks. Last month, a report from Sports Business Journal suggested that Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) were considering replacing him as CEO.

Norman then addressed the claims soon after, confirming to Sports Illustrated that he has a contract with LIV until 2025. “I’ll answer it this way: My contract is through August of 2025,” he said. “My commitment to LIV has been unquestioned and my commitment to the future is also unquestioned. Time will tell. Will there be a change in my role? My position and my role is to deliver 2025 and get our schedule done and all the things we need to do.”
