Cristiano Ronaldo’s uncle was reportedly taken to hospital in Jersey on Wednesday after being knocked off a motorcycle.

Jorge Viveiros was involved in a collision with a Smart car in Saint Helier, the capital of Jersey, on Wednesday. According to reports from Portugal, he had to be rescued by firefighters before being taken to hospital.

Viveiros spent a few hours in hospital under observation before he was allowed to leave. He is now understood to be recovering at home.

Viveiros is the brother of Ronaldo’s mother Dolores Aveiro, who is a regular presence at his matches. Ronaldo is very close to his mum and flew back to Portugal from Saudi Arabia to celebrate her 69th birthday in January, for which he also gifted her a brand new Porche.

Ronaldo remains with Al-Nassr in the Saudi capital of Riyadh but has entered the final seven months of his current contract. The 39-year-old is yet to decide what his next step will be, but has often spoken about his desire to continue playing in pursuit of more goal scoring records.

His mother would love for him to return to Portugal and end his career with Sporting Lisbon – the club she supports and where he started out before joining Manchester United.

“Ronaldo has to come back here,” she once said. “If it were my choice, he would already be here. He likes to watch Sporting games.

“I’ve already told him: ‘Son, before I die, I want to see you return to Sporting’. He says: ‘Let’s see’: But if it can’t be him, then Cristianinho!”

She even suggested that Ronaldo’s son could be even better than him in the future, having taken his first steps in the game.

“At his age, he plays better than Ronaldo,” she said. “At that age, Ronaldo didn’t have a coach but today Ronaldo is his son’s teacher.

“He’s already saying ‘Dad, when we move to Lisbon I want to play for Sporting’. Now he’s starting out at Manchester [United]. Seeing the two of them together at Sporting was my dream, it would be spectacular.”
