Ludvig Aberg has revealed his excitement to be back out competing on the PGA Tour, after the Swede spent time on the sidelines following surgery to his knee.

Aberg is back at the RSM Classic to defend his title, a year on from his breakthrough victory. It comes on the back of a three-month layoff away from action after the youngster underwent surgery on a knee problem. The injury began back in April, before he finally received treatment following the end of the FedEx Cup playoffs.

The PGA Tour’s final event of the campaign will take place at the RSM this week, and for Aberg, both the chance to defend the crown as well as making a long-awaited return is an exciting prospect.

“Yeah, I’ve had some time off, it’s been quite nice,” he told reporters. “I had surgery on my knee, so I had about four weeks off from golf. The first two weeks I did not miss it at all, I’m not gonna lie, but last couple of weeks it’s been itching in my fingers quite a bit. So it’s been nice to get back into practicing, playing a lot more at home.

“Now actually bought a house as well, kind of getting old and getting a lot of grownup points in that space. It’s nice to be back playing tournaments again. You miss it when you’re not out here.”

Aberg sported a knee brace throughout the campaign, after the problem flared up at various points throughout the year. Speaking on the decision to finally undergo surgery, he added: “I felt early in the year this must have been somewhere around April, May, something like that it started to act up a little bit. I didn’t really know what it was. We got it checked out and then I still felt fine, so it didn’t hinder me in terms of my training or my play.

“So then after consulting with a few doctors, I know, or I knew that I needed to have surgery at some point, but I also felt like I could last throughout the season, obviously playing through the Playoffs, and then after the Playoffs was a good time to kind of deal with it and get it done.”

Aged just 22, having enjoyed a remarkable rise since turning professional last summer, Aberg admitted being sidelined for the first was a ‘weird’ feeling. No, that was the first time [having surgery]. It was the first time I hadn’t been able to play golf from that regard,” he claimed.

“So it was a little bit weird. Didn’t really know how to handle it. UltimatelyI felt like I made the right choice in terms of the timing and how we handled it. If I were to doit again, I would do the same thing.”
