Martin Kaymer has revealed he has received ‘so many’ requests from players wanting to join Cleeks GC ahead of the 2025 LIV Golf season.
Kaymer is the man in charge of the all-European team, having played alongside Adrian Meronk, Richard Bland and Kalle Samooja throughout the last campaign. Unfortunately for the latter, his time with the team is over, as Samooja was relegated from the LIV setup after ending the 2024 season in the drop zone.
Captain Kaymer now needs to replace his former teammate ahead of the upcoming 2025 campaign, after the breakaway league’s transfer window opened last week.
The German is able trade players between LIV franchises, or bring players in who are not yet part of the Saudi-funded circuit. Last campaign, he brought in both Meronk and Samooja, the former giving up his PGA Tour card to make the move, whilst the latter was signed after earning his spot via LIV Promotions.
The breakaway league will once again be hosting their promotion event in December, but will this time only offer one roster spot to those competing, rather than three. Having used the process last year to complete his team, Kaymer has admitted this time he is keen to complete his roster before the event, having received plenty of interest.
“There’s the option to wait until the promotion event, but, I mean, who knows who’s going to qualify?” he said at the Hong Kong Open. “I like the idea that we have a little bit more freedom in order to recruit a player. It gives a bit more freedom, a bit more flow to the whole thing.”

The German also revealed he is keen to bring in a player that is similar to him, Meronk and Bland, making it easier to embed their new recruit into the Cleeks team ethos. “You know, I don’t really have a loud team, I don’t have an [active] social media team,” he added.
“You know, it has to be a person who is similar to how you approach the game of golf. And for me, it was always important that we try to shine through good golf and not through something else, and that is what we’re looking for.” His former teammate, Samooja plotted a return to the DP World Tour earlier this month on the back of his relegation.
The Finn entered DP World Tour Qualifying, but failed to make the grade and earn a spot back on the circuit. He does have the option to return to LIV Promotions in December, with Cleeks General Manager Jonas Mårtensson keen to see him make a return to the league.
“First of all he is a fantastic person,” Mårtensson told Mirror Sport. “We want him somehow to be connected to the Cleeks for as long as we can because he has been fantastic for team spirit and just a great guy.” The GM went on: “I would love to see him back with LIV, and I would love to see him back on the Cleeks. I don’t know his exact plans but I would expect so.”
