Cody Gakpo believes Liverpool can ‘win everything’ this season, despite the doubts of manager Arne Slot.
Slot’s side sit top of the Premier League coming out of the October international break. They have also reached the next round of the Carabao Cup and have cruised through their first two Champions League games.
The Reds return to action against high-flying Chelsea on Sunday evening in one of Slot’s biggests so far. One of Slot’s key players this term has been Gakpo, who has featured in every single match.
And ahead of the visit of the Blues, the Netherlands international has laid out his ambitious target for his team-mates. He insisted that Liverpool can better last season’s efforts, which saw the Reds win the Carabao Cup.
“Hopefully we can win everything. It’s the start of the season, we are in all competitions ,and when you participate in a competition you participate to win,” Gakpo told Sky Sports when asked for his aims this season.
“So that’s our goal and I think last season we showed we can do it. We were very close to a lot of things but missed it in the end a little bit, but that gives us hope and strength that we know we could come that far.
“So this year we are going to push even further. We have a good group, a lot of quality. We’ve known each other a little bit longer now, so yeah, all those things help.”

Slot though is keeping his powder dry for now and instead wants to wait until Liverpool are halfway through the league campaign. Even then, he believes his side will have to slay Goliath in Manchester City, who have amassed 31 points more than the Reds over the last two seasons.
“I know how good we are but we still have to prove things when the fixtures are coming we all know after the international break then we go into tougher fixtures than we have now,” he said at the end of September.
“But one thing I noticed in the Premier League compared to the league I have come from is that every team has a few players who cost £40m-£50m and have a lot of quality so there are no easy games in the Premier League. I know every manager says it but it is true.
“I think it is always difficult to judge the league table after five, six or seven games because if you look at Wolves they were really unlucky [with the fixture list] playing Arsenal, Newcastle, Chelsea and Villa – that is a different fixture list than the one we had.
“So I think the best way to judge the League table is after 19 games. I don’t mind if they underestimate or overestimate us. The situation is Manchester City, I think, have taken 30 or more points from us in the last two seasons. So that is the situation as it is and we’re trying to close that gap.”
