Constitution Hill is back on track for a potential return to action at Christmas.
The unbeaten hurdler, who missed the Champion Hurdle at Cheltenham due to illness, was being primed for a reappearance in the Fighting Fifth Hurdle at Newcastle on Saturday.
But two days after a lacklustre public workout at Newbury he was found to be lame and his season put on hold while trainer Nicky Henderson got to the bottom of it.
In the wake of the setback the 2023 Champion Hurdle winner lost his position as long time favourite for the 2025 edition, while his exciting stablemate Sir Gino will now take his place at Newcastle, having been diverted off a novice chasing campaign.
The latest bulletin on his stable star came in the form of another video posted by trainer Nicky Henderson on his X account.
He said: “It’s Monday morning. I’m here with Constitution Hill in his new house. He’s back here as we mentioned on Friday.
“We’ve had a fairly mysterious lameness which we couldn’t identify so he spent the day with veterinary firstly x-ray to see if there was anything untoward which wouldn’t be very unpleasant.
“An ultrasound and x-rays revealed nothing. An MRI scan identified a small area with a bit of inflammation in his pastern in his near-fore that was actually touching the nerve and that’s what would be been making his sore. It would have been very sore.
“I am happy to report from being noticeably sore on Friday and Saturday, he’s miles, miles better this morning.
“We are starting some gentle walking exercise today and I seriously hope we can get back on the road so we can continue his preparation which will hopefully now lead us to the Christmas Hurdle.
“Obviously the Fighting Fifth is out, but the Christmas Hurdle is still realistic. He won it last year, so let’s hope that is where we can get him out so we can get his great career back on track.”
