Darts fans have jokingly backed Stephen Bunting to beat Luke Littler after it was revealed he is two months younger than football superstar Cristiano Ronaldo.
Bunting will face wonderkid Littler in the semi-finals of the World Darts Championship on Thursday night. The 39-year-old has become a fan favourite over the course of the tournament, with his walk-on song Titanium proving particularly popular.
And those fans have shown their support for him after it was revealed he is younger than Ronaldo, having been born in April 1985 compared to the footballer’s February birthday. The Al-Nassr star still appears to be at the peak of physical condition.
While Bunting may not possess a similar physique to the Portuguese superstar, he does have a significant amount of talent on the oche. And he also has a sizeable fanbase who have rallied behind him ahead of his semi-final.
Replying to a Twitter post which had pictures of Bunting and Ronaldo side by side, one said: “One is top of his game and one is not.” Another added: “But has Ronaldo done it at ally pally?”
A third joked: “Tbf, Bunting has a better chance of becoming a world champion.” A fourth said: “Bunting is still competing at the highest level of his sport.”
A fifth said: “One is the absolute peak iteration of the male form, the other is a footballer.” A sixth concluded: “One’s a top athlete competing with the best in the world, the other’s in Saudi Arabia taking early retirement.”

Bunting has reached the second World Championship semi-final of his career this year. He held off a fightback from Peter Wright on New Year’s Day to beat the Scot 5-2 in their quarter-final.
Bunting quickly took a four-set lead to put himself in firm control of the tie. But Wright mounted a comeback to bring the match back to 4-2, hitting a mind-boggling 133 checkout with two D19s.
But Bunting was able to hold his nerve, breaking Wright’s throw to take control of the seventh set and claiming the win with a fifth match dart. The 39-year-old admitted to being nervous during the game but is delighted to reach the final four.
“In the back room, I felt real nervous, on edge,” Bunting told Sky Sports. “Peter Wright is a fan favourite and he is my son’s favourite player. I felt sorry for my son, but I knew the crowd was going to turn pivotal in the middle of the game.
“And listen [to the crowd] in the first four sets you were unreal but you have got to do better. I thought to myself just try and refocus. Each and every game I have just focused on that opponent. The crowd, unbelievable again. Let’s go Bunting mental!”
