Former Manchester United chief Patrick Stewart has landed a new job as CEO of Rangers.
Stewart will officially start work on December 16, with the Scotsman replacing James Bisgrove after he quit the club to join Saudi Arabian side Al-Qadsiah back in May. Stewart will take over the day-to-day runnng of Rangers, having spent the previous 18 years at United.
“On behalf of the board, I’m delighted to welcome Patrick to the club as CEO,” Rangers’ interim chairman John Gilligan said. “Patrick comes with an excellent reputation and background, bringing extensive experience of operating at senior levels during his 20-plus years in football.
“The board continues in discussions with several excellent candidates for the role of Chairperson and expect to make an announcement of an appointment in the coming weeks.” Stewart left United over the summer after a brief stint as interim CEO.
He assumed the role after Richard Arnold departed following Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s purchase of a stake in the club, before Omar Berrada officially took charge on July 13 after Ratcliffe poached him from local rivals Manchester City.
Stewart joined United in 2006 as the club’s first general counsel and was made a member of the board in 2019. He was then promoted to executive director in 2022 and has previously worked for UEFA’s marketing agency for the Champions League.
Stewart’s appointment as Rangers’ new CEO comes after the club promoted Nils Koppen to become their new technical director, with director of football operations Creag Robertson set to leave the club.

“I am both honoured and delighted to take up the role of Technical Director here at Rangers,” Koppen said. “Winning is all that matters at this club, and it is my job to ensure that everything that supports our men’s first team, from recruitment, to the Academy, medical, performance, operations, analysis, and everything in-between, is at as high a level as possible.
“I look forward to the challenge ahead, and to supporting the wider team as we work night and day to ensure this club is challenging for trophies on every front.” Rangers currently sit third in the Scottish Premiership, with Philippe Clement’s side 11 points behind reigning champions Celtic.
