Jason Day is eyeing a return to major championship glory in 2025 after rediscovering his form over the past two seasons.

The Aussie was once among the most formidable players in the game, rising to top spot in the Official World Golf Ranking in 2015 after winning his one and only major – the PGA Championship at Whistling Straits.

But a run of injuries and health issues, including bouts of vertigo which have seen him collapse on the course and continue to be a concern, saw him go more than five years without a win from 2018-23.

His winless streak was finally ended at the AT&T Byron Nelson last year. Four top-10s on the PGA Tour and a ninth-place finish at the Olympics while getting another 21 tournaments under his belt was a step in the right direction.

The 37-year-old believes he is edging back to the peak of his powers and he is confident of picking up big wins in 2025, with major championship glory and success in the PGA Tour’s lucrative signature events on his mind.

Despite going almost a decade without a major win, he still has his eyes on completing the remaining pieces of the grand slam puzzle.

“I feel good about my game,” Day said ahead of a rare competitive appearance in his native Australia on Thursday. “A goal [for 2025] is to try and win a major and another goal is to win an elevated [PGA Tour] event.

“The goal for me has always been trying to win all four [majors]. I know I definitely have the game to win majors. It’s just being able to be healthy first and foremost, and then have the swing and the technique to back it up.

“I know that on my day, I’m the best putter in the world and my short game is great. I just need the ball striking to match that. If I can do that, then I definitely have a shot at winning more majors than just my first one.”

Day, who has lived in the United States for much of his career, is making his first competitive start in his homeland since 2017 in this week’s Australian PGA Championship at Royal Queensland Golf Club.

“I’ve always wanted to win in Australia and I haven’t won as a professional,” Queensland-born Day said.

“I’ve seen Jordan Spieth and Rory McIlroy come down and win Australian Opens. It’d be nice for me to do that, especially in Brisbane, where I grew up playing some tournaments at Royal Queensland.”

Day will play his opening two rounds in the marquee group alongside 2022 Open winner Cam Smith and defending Australian PGA champion Min Woo Lee.
