Despite earning a spot in the playoff event, Jon Rahm has decided not to compete at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship on the DP World Tour next week. The DP World Tour season is set to conclude in the Middle East this month, starting with a trip to Abu Dhabi and ending with the grand finale at the DP World Tour Championship in Dubai.
The top 70 players are given a spot for the Abu Dhabi event, and Rahm finished the regular season in a respectable 34th place. However, the former Masters champion will not be participating in the $9million (£7m) tournament, as his name was noticeably missing from the tournament entry list released earlier this week.
This comes after Rahm’s participation in three DP World Tour events in recent weeks. After spending most of his year with LIV Golf, the Legion XIII captain made a return for his event at the Spanish Open, and also competed in the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship and the Andalucia Masters.
His return to the Tour was significant, as his three starts fulfilled his four-event tally for the year, ensuring he retains his DP World Tour membership and is therefore eligible to compete in next year’s Ryder Cup. Having met his quota, Rahm has chosen to skip the playoffs.
Following the recent birth of their third child, Alaia, Rahm and his wife Kelley are enjoying some family time. The Legion XIII skipper had to fly back to Europe for his home event in Spain just days after Alaia’s birth.
“So blessed to have welcomed our daughter Alaia Cahill Rahm into the world last week,” Rahm tweeted last month. He added: “Mama and baby girl are both healthy and doing great, I can’t wait to get back home to them.”

After a stint on the round, he will now enjoy some family time at home, with the LIV circuit not returning until February 2025.
Despite Rahm’s absence, there will still be representation from the LIV setup at the playoff event in Abu Dhabi. Rahm’s Legion XIII teammate Tyrrell Hatton will compete, having also been required to compete in four events to keep his Ryder Cup hopes alive.
Elsewhere, Joaquin Niemann and Adrian Meronk will tee it up in the desert, with the latter confirming their entry last week. “Joaquin Niemann is going to play both the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship and the DP World Tour Championship,” Meronk said per Gulf News, who also confirmed his entry.
