The January transfer window is now just days away, though the focus at Liverpol will be around contracts.
The futures of Virgil van Dijk, Mo Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold are all up in the air. Their deals will expire at the end of the current season, with little public sign of progress in talks with any of the trio.
Alexander-Arnold is being closely monitored by Real Madrid, with the Spanish giants having long been linked with the right-back. Salah and Van Dijk meanwhile are hoping to extend their stays at Anfield.
Liverpool will also be looking to add to Arne Slot’s squad as they seek to win the Premier League title. Here, Mirror Football rounds up all the latest Liverpool transfer news.
Van Dijk transfer dismissed
Real Madrid are not looking to sign Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk. The defender’s contract will expire at the end of the season, with Madrid having been floated as a potential destination for the Dutchman.
But according to Marca, those reports were misplaced, with Los Blancos ‘refusing’ to make ‘any offers’ for Van Dijk. While he is admired and respected by Bernabeu chiefs, he is not part of their future plans.
They are also not considering the defender as a possible signing ahead of next season. Madrid are instead understood to be targeting younger defenders as they prepare to overhaul the position.

Former Liverpool star John Arne Riise believes that Trent Alexander-Arnold will leave Anfield next summer at the end of his contract. Arne Riise has tipped the right-back to seek a fresh challenge in his career.
“There’s never been anyone like him in world football or at Liverpool,” Arne Riise told Amazon Prime. “He is exceptional. In modern football, you have to be good defensively and offensively, he is exceptionally good going forward with his passing and vision.
“I think he’s happy, but it’s more about Trent himself and what he wants from his career. Does he need something new, or is he happy here. That is the big question. I think he will go.”
Reds set out sale stance
Liverpool are unlikely to look to sell any of their players in the January window. There are a number of stars who have struggled for opportunities since Arne Slot arrived as Jurgen Klopp’s replacement.
But according to The Athletic, Slot is ‘happy’ with the current make up of his squad. And with a busy second-half of the season ahead, the Dutchman is keen to maintain the depth he currently has to guard against injuries.
Tyler Morton is a case in point, with Liverpool making it clear they will not let him leave unless a midfielder is added. There is expected to be interest in the 22-year-old, but Slot is said to value his attitude and application in training.
