Luke Littler has come up with a genius way for Manchester United to beat their Premier League rivals to the signing of Dani Olmo.

The Barcelona midfielder is potentially available this January after the Catalan giants failed to register him for the second-half of the season. He would be free to leave the Camp Nou for nothing.

That news has triggered a clamour among clubs interested in the former RB Leipzig playmaker. United are among those eyeing him, while Liverpool, Arsenal, Tottenham, Manchester City and Chelsea are all in the running.

There is also interest from abroad. But Littler – who reached the PDC World Championship semi-finals on Wednesday – believes he knows how the Red Devils could sign him. Taking to Instagram hours before beating Nathan Aspinall 5-2 at the Alexandra Palace, he wrote: “6 month loan United,” alongside a picture of Olmo.

It is not the first time that Littler has had his say on the transfer business of his boyhood club. He also urged United to re-sign former goalkeeper David De Gea while Andre Onana was going through some tricky form.

“Bring back Dave,” Littler wrote in a deleted social media post, along with a glove emoji. And while the 17-year-old wants to see some business at Old Trafford this January, he might be left frustrated.

Boss Ruben Amorim recently admitted that players will need to leave the club before any come in. Speaking last month, he said: “We don’t have that possibility in January, if we don’t take (sell) some players. So you know the situation better than I am.

“So it’s not the case that I am arriving here and I can spend a lot of money changing all the team. You know the situation, so it’s not a point to talk about it.”

Littler surprisingly showed his loyalties for another Premier League during his win against Aspinall. Despite being a United fan, he emulated the celebration of Chelsea icon Didier Drogba – but there was a simple explanation.

“My mate has been pestering me for months to do it and he was in the crowd tonight and when I was walking off I looked at him and he was doing the celebration so I did it,” Littler said. “It’s from FIFA.”

Littler is back in action on Thursday as he attempts to book his place in a second World Championship final. He will take on Stephen Bunting in the last four.
