Ex-Manchester United goalkeeper Anders Lindegaard has swapped keeping clean sheets for bank sheets.
The 40-year-old Dane has embarked on a new career following his retirement and confirmed a new role. After annoucing the end of his time in professional football in 2022 having last played for Helsingborg, Lindegaard has revealed he has taken up a position with global investment bank UBS.
The former shotstopper enjoyed a career that took in Odense and Aalesund before earning his move to Old Trafford. Lindegaard made 29 appearances during a five-season spell with United.
Opportunities were fleeting but Lindegaard was present for Sir Alex Ferguson’s final Premier League title at United in a term where he made 13 appearances, the most of his Red Devils career.
While new horizons await, the goalkeeper plans to maintain some participation in the sport. His responsibilities will include helping the bank understand athletes and to support them.
The five-cap international said: “New beginnings, new job, new career. My role is to help the bank better understand successful athletes, and provide them with meaningful and valuable service from the leading asset manager.
“I will always be an athlete by nature. Helping other athletes navigate through their sports adventures seems both natural and meaningful to me.

“In that way I see myself and my role as being employed by UBS, but I work for the athletes. For me personally this is the start of a different career. I always wanted to stay in football, but I didn’t want to work on the pitch.”
Lindegaard joined West Bromwich Albion in 2015 on a free transfer but was loaned to Preston North End the following January. The ex-Denmark international saw his deal with the Baggies ended by mutual termination before returning to Preston on a one-year contract.
A spell at Burnley followed where he featured in the Europa League against Aberdeen but his contract was ultimately not renewed after two seasons. That saw him sign for Swedish side Helsingborg where in July 2020, he scored the first goal of his career in a draw with Falkenbergs FF.
Captaining the side, Lindegaard spared his team from defeat with a stoppage time header to ensure Helsingborg completed a two-goal comeback.
Reflecting on his United career in 2022, Lindegaard offered a philosophical answer: “I probably did what was expected but not what I dreamt. Why? I’ve concluded that Anders Lindegaard at 100% could make a difference. It was not enough to be 90% and I dropped to 60%, God knows how low, with the injury.”
