Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim asked Marcus Rashford about a post-match night out before banishing him from his matchday squad for a run of matches, it has been claimed.
Rashford started and scored in each of Amorim’s first two matches in charge, including a brace against Everton. However, he has not been named in a league starting line-up since.
After a pair of substitute appearances against Arsenal and Nottingham Forest, the England international was left out entirely for the next three top-flight matches and the Carabao Cup elimination at Tottenham. He returned to the matchday squad against Newcastle on December 30, but didn’t make it onto the pitch.
Rashford continues to be linked with a January exit after indicating he was ready for a new challenge. Now, though, fresh reports have raised questions about the initial falling-out which saw the forward dropped from the starting XI and ultimately the squad entirely.
According to The Athletic, Amorim learned that Rashford had been at a bar in Manchester less than 48 hours before the 4-0 victory over Everton. The forward is said to have assured the head coach that reports of a late night were wide of the mark, though, after being asked about the matter by Amorim.
The Manchester Derby was the first match which Rashford missed entirely, with Alejandro Garnacho left out of the matchday squad as well. However, while Garnacho has returned to make appearances from the bench in recent weeks, his team-mate is still waiting.
Rashford is reported to have snubbed interest from the Saudi Pro League, with indications any move would be made with his goal of an England recall in mind. More recently, he shot down “false stories” about him speaking with agencies about his representation.

“We try to evaluate everything training performance, game performances, engagement with teammates, push their team=mates up,” Amorim said in December when asked about leaving out Rashford and Garnacho for the Manchester Derby. “Everything is on the line when we analyse and try to choose the players. It is my selection. Simple.
“I don’t want to send a message it is simply an evaluation and they know it. The players are really, really smart. Everybody understands my decision and I have to choose. It is simple selection.
“Of course the context is difficult because we have to win games and we have a difficult situation now. I pay attention to everything, the way you eat, the way you put your clothes to go to a game. Everything. I make my evaluation and then I decide.
“There is a communication after the last training. They are alright. They had training this morning and I was there. They trained really well.”
