Mike Tyson appears more than ready for his fight with Jake Paul after the 58-year-old uploaded footage of him dropping his sparring partner.
With the fight just a few weeks away, both Tyson and Paul are in the final stages of their respective training camps. While many have slammed the decision to go ahead with the heavyweight showdown, ‘Iron Mike’ insists he will be fit to make the walk to the ring next month.
The former undisputed world champion hasn’t fought a professional contest since losing to Irishman Kevin McBride nearly two decades ago. He did, however, compete in an exhibition bout against Roy Jones Jr back in 2020. Both Tyson and Paul are scheduled to go glove-to-glove on November 15 at the AT&T Arena in Arlington, Texas. The pair were supposed to go head-to-head back in July, however, ‘Iron Mike’ was forced to pull out of the original contest after suffering an ulcer flare up.
Many fans have feared for Tyson’s health over the last few weeks after the boxing veteran recently admitted he was struggling to walk after sparring. Over the last few months, the former heavyweight world champion has been fairly quiet on social media and has remained focused on the task at hand. As for Paul, the 27-year-old has regularly taken to his social channels ahead of the controversial showdown.
However, with fight night fast approaching, Tyson has opted to provide fans with a few snippets of his preparation for the contest. In a recent post uploaded to social media, the 58-year-old shared a clip of him dropping his sparring partner with a sharp left hook. The video then cuts to his coach, Rafael Cordeiro, ending the session, saying: “That was good for today.” A pumped up Tyson replied: “You sure? You f****** sure?!” ‘Iron Mike’ then said “I’ve got a lot in me” before issuing a warning to ‘The Problem Child’: “I’m just getting started.”
Over the last few days, the former world champion has released several clips of him in action. However, some fans were left concerned by his recent sparring footage. One user wrote: “I think I know why there are so many jump cuts. You are going to be gassed in 20 seconds.” Another commented: “I’m starting to think that dudes in some serious trouble. Hope his insurance is paid up. All that money will buy a nice wheelchair.” A third posted: “We see these 10 second clips of furious power and speed …. It’s the 15mins of recovery afterwards we don’t see. Silly fight, with silly caveats in the contract to make it last but as well all know … money ru(i)ns this world now.” A fourth wrote: “I’ve yet to see 2 min of straight action lol.”
Another user appeared to spot another issue in one of his recent training clips. One user commented: “Hope right knee is holding. Is it an injury?” In the video, the 58-year-old can be seen hitting a heavy bag before sparring a training partner. However, in the short post, the former heavyweight world champion can be seen wearing a knee support on his right knee – potentially implying that he may be suffering with a slight issue just a few weeks before fight night. However, as of yet, Tyson is yet to address concerns he may be carrying a slight knock.
While a few have been left worried by the video, there are some fans who remain optimistic ahead of the heavyweight dust-up in November. “If anyone can turn back the clock one more time, it’s Mike,” one user wrote. Another commented: “Let’s go champ. Iron Mike aging like fine wine. Show them what we missed all these years and deliver a knuckle sandwich knockout.” A third posted: “Can’t wait either mate, I have not watched boxing since the early 90’s, going to watch this one for sure.” Another wrote: “Jake is f*****.”
