Boxing fans have been left optimistic after Mike Tyson released exclusive behind the scenes footage of preparation for his showdown with Jake Paul.
The 58-year-old is set to make a sensational return to the ring next month against ‘The Problem Child’ – who is 31 years his junior. Tyson’s last professional boxing outing took place back in 2005 when he suffered a defeat to Irishman Kevin McBride. Despite hanging up the gloves that night, he did compete in an exhibition bout with fellow boxing legend Roy Jones Jr four years ago.
As for Paul, the 27-year-old made his debut four years ago and has racked up 10 professional wins since. The young American has already defeated the likes of Anderson Silva, Tyron Woodley, Nate Diaz and Ben Askren. He comes into the fight with ‘Iron Mike’ off the back of a win over former UFC fighter Mike Perry back in July.
The heavyweight dust-up between the pair will take place on November 15 at the AT&T Stadium in Texas in front of up to 90,000 fans, with millions expected to watch worldwide. The pair were due to fight earlier this year, but Tyson was forced to pull out of the original date after suffering an ulcer flare up.
With the fight just weeks away, both men are in the final stages of their respective fight camps. Over the last few months, Paul has been very active on social media and has uploaded footage regularly of his training for the contest. As for his opponent, Tyson has been fairly quiet. That said, the former heavyweight world champion recently uploaded a video to his official YouTube channel.
In the video, Tyson was seen conversing with Muhammad Ali’s former business manager, Gene Kilroy – who was visiting the boxing icon’s training camp. The 10 minute clip shows ‘Iron Mike’ releasing some snippets of him in training while also chatting to Kilroy about the ‘evolution of a fighter’.
After the video was uploaded, fans were quick to have their say on the current state of ‘Iron Mike’. One user wrote: “It’s amazing to see. Tyson looks in better shape than he did in 2002.” Another commented: “Mike looks great for his age!! Good luck Mike.” A third wrote: “Bro is back in shape looking 25 again.” A fourth posted: “You can see the fire in Iron Mike’s eyes again.” “Mike looks fantastic here, has that wisdom and aura to influence the masses still like Ali did. Let’s go champ,” commented another.
While there are a few fans who are confident Tyson can get the job done next month, there are some who believe he isn’t taking the contest seriously. During a recent chat with Jimmy Kimmel, Tyson claimed he was training six hours a day. “I am training extremely hard, I do six hours a day. I start at 11am and might leave the gym at 5pm,” he said. Kimmel looked stunned and replied: “Oh no. 11am? So that’s six hours straight, or is there a lunch break?” The former heavyweight champion admitted there was a small break as a shocked Kimmel gasped: “Oh no.”
