Mohamed Salah is a “dream” signing for Saudi Pro League clubs next summer and his transfer fee could eclipse Cristiano Ronaldo‘s if he joins, according to reports.
Salah future at Liverpool is far from certain after claiming he was “more out than in” at Anfield, with his contract expiring next summer and no offer yet on the table.
Reds boss Arne Slot dismissed speculation over Salah’s future this week as he made light of the player’s comments and said no one in his squad was distracted despite three heading into next summer as free agents.
The 32-year-old has already been chased by Saudi club after Liverpool rejected a £150million offer from Al-Ittihad last summer and there is expected to be an approach at the end of the season, according to the Daily Mail.
Saudi chiefs reportedly believe a move for Salah “makes financial sense” and are ready to make him one of their best-paid stars with the player set to be available on a free transfer as things stand.
Ronaldo currently holds the record for biggest salary in the Saudi Pro League after landing a deal with around £177m-a-season and Pro League officials are willing to pay Salah an amount that would put him on par with the Real Madrid legend – or possibly even eclipse him. They also believe Salah’s influence and “marketing power” in the Arab world could result in “lucrative” results.
Salah is set to turn 33 next summer and Liverpool could opt to allow him to join a Saudi club rather than fork out a huge salary amid financial fair play restrictions. Salah is a legend at Liverpool and their fifth highest scorer of all time after netting 223 times in 368 outings, becoming instrumental in their Champions League triumph in 2019 and their Premier League title win the following year.

But his words on his Liverpool future appeared damning this week as he poured doubt on the prospect of him extending his eight-year spell at Anfield. “Well, we are almost in December and I haven’t received any offers yet to stay in the club,” he said. “I’m probably more out than in.
“You know I have been in the club for many years. There is no club like this. But in the end it is not in my hands. As I said before, it is December and I haven’t received anything yet about my future. I love the fans. The fans love me. In the end it is not in my hands or the fans’ hands. Let’s wait and see.”
Salah has continued to show his influence and top-level consistency for the team this season by scoring 12 times in 19 appearances as he bids to help Liverpool become Premier League champions once again. The Reds currently top the table by eight points.
His manager Arne Slot insisted he had no immediate concern about Salah despite his comments. The Dutchman said: “I don’t think it distracts Mo at all, maybe it even brings the best out of him if you look at his performances until now. I talk to Mo about what I expect from him, like I do with all the other players, and he is in a good place at the moment.”
