Willian is a man without a club once again after his Olympiacos exit was confirmed.

The Premier League winner twice claimed the title when he was at Chelsea, where he spent seven years having joined them when Jose Mourinho was in charge. He left in 2020 for Arsenal and has since struggled to settle with his career taking him around the globe.

Willian was a hugely influential figure at Stamford Bridge, particularly under Mourinho, and scored a number of big goals. The Gunners thought they’d landed a key man when they signed him on a free but he never managed to replicate his strong form at the Emirates.

He left Arsenal and headed back to his homeland with Corinthians – where he began his career. The Brazilian rescinded his contract in August 2022 after complaining about virtual threats during his last months in the club as his homecoming failed to go to plan.

Despite being in his mid-30s Fulham chose to bring Willian back to west London after they were promoted back to the Premier League and it proved to be an inspired decision. They handed the veteran a one-year deal and he continued to deliver.

So much so that the Cottagers chose to give the Brazilian another 12 month deal as they continued to retain their top flight status. Following that Willian penned a deal with Olympiakos, taking him to Greece for at least a year.

However he’s been hugely unproductive in Athens and he and the club have now cut ties. Willian struggled to make an impact and played just 11 times – failing to score. According to reports the player chose to tear up his deal and is, once again, on the market. It is understood that the Brazilian plans to remain in Europe, but there is also speculation he could move to MLS.

Willian hasn’t been settled since his Chelsea days but believes there’s plenty of life in him and the 36-year-old wants to play until his 40th birthday. He said recently: “I am feeling great physically and in two seasons at Fulham, I didn’t have any problems at all, so I feel completely great.

“I am working in the gym to be in good shape but, of course, it is different from training every day and being ready inside a club. But I am doing all I can to be in good shape for my next club. I think my level physically and mentally is great. I think I can play for three or four years more – maybe until I am 40 years old! I feel motivated and at a high level.”
