Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim‘s first signing is close to being confirmed after claims 17-year-old Diego Leon has agreed to join the Red Devils.
United have been strongly linked with a move for the Paraguayan starlet, who plays at left-back for local club Cerro Porteno and has emerged as one of the brightest defensive talents around.
Now the teenage sensation has finally put pen to paper on a deal that will see him arrive at Old Trafford next summer when he turns 18, according to reports. United are said to be paying around £3million for the youngster in addition to around £800,000 in add-ons.
Reports from journalist Fabrizio Romano claim the move was rubber stamped by technical director Jason Wilcox after scout Giuseppe Antonaccio pushed for the club to sign him.
The apparent arrival of Leon comes at a time when United are in need of more depth at left-back following long-term injuries to Tyrell Malacia and Luke Shaw this season. Malacia has now returned to full fitness, though Shaw is still out and Amorim is reportedly chasing moves for left-backs such as PSG’s Nuno Mendes and Bayern Munich star Alphonso Davies.

Given that Leon won’t be available until summer 2025, Amorim will be keen to get one of those deals over the line – while also making a decision on the future of Marcus Rashford.
The forward admitted he wanted to leave the club in a bombshell interview this week, though the former Sporting Lisbon boss insisted he wanted the England international to stay at Old Trafford.
He said: “We are better with Marcus Rashford, that is simple and we will try different things to push Marcus to the best levels he showed in the past. And that’s all.”
