Sir Jim Ratcliffe will be regretting his failure to sign Michael Olise – after his electric start to the season with Bayern Munich.

The INEOS owner had pencilled in the French winger as a ‘dream signing’ at Old Trafford after his minority takeover of the club. Then with Crystal Palace, Olise was shining in the Premier League for the Eagles.

The only issue was, many other clubs were also taking notice of his talents. German giants Bayern Munich were among those and eventually sealed a £50m deal for the winger under United’s noses.

And Olise has more than repaid that fee so far after a dream start to life in Bavaria. A brace in Saturday’s 5-0 win against Werder Bremen sees his record sit at five goals and three assists in just six outings in all competitions.

His boss Vincent Kompany has been left hugely impressed. Speaking after Bayern’s latest success. He said: “He’s a special talent. It’s a luxury at Bayern to have so many good players. Michael did very well.

“His start at FC Bayern couldn’t be much better. He has to keep going this way. I haven’t got the feeling that he’s a player who feels much pressure. He just enjoys football.”

Meanwhile, Bayern teammate Jamal Musiala has hailed Olise for his start at the club. He said: “We understand each other very well, we talk a lot. The more games we play together, the more chemistry we’ll have. He’s got a lot of quality.”

Olise’s start will certainly be irritating United, particularly after their run of inconsistent results continued at the weekend – ironically against the Frenchman’s former club Crystal Palace. Erik ten Hag ’s side were held to a less than inspiring 0-0 draw at Selhurst Park on Saturday.

Ivorian winger Amad Diallo was stationed on the right flank but struggled to have much of an impact until he was replaced by Rasmus Hojlund with around 15 minutes to go. Alejandro Garnacho has been bright in wide positions this season but was instead chosen to play on the left.

He was unable to have an impact against Palace having been wasteful throughout the game. Funnily enough, Ratcliffe already had the perfect solution for his side’s problem position.

Jadon Sancho is a very capable performer despite not showing his best form at Old Trafford. But he has very little future as a Red Devil after joining Chelsea on loan with an obligation to buy.

And like Olise, Sancho has enjoyed a bright start to life with his new club. The England winger has two assists from as many appearances for the Blues. He teed up Christopher Nkunku’s winner against Bournemouth last weekend before teeing up Nicolas Jackson’s opener vs West Ham.

So while Ratcliffe may be regretting sanctioning Sancho’s exit, it will also make his failure to sign Olise even worse.
