Trent Alexander-Arnold has given Liverpool chiefs no indication he wants to join Real Madrid despite a bid from the Spanish giants.
The Liverpool defender continues to be linked with a move to the Bernabeu this season. They are interested in signing him for nothing at the end of the season once his contract expires.
And while that remains a distinct possibility, the La Liga side have attempted to push a deal forwards. They have approached Liverpool just hours ahead of the January window with a bid – an attempt that has been instantly rebuffed by Liverpool.
The Reds are understandably not keen to sell any time soon given they are currently embroiled in a battle to win the Premier League in Arne Slot’s debut campaign. And Alexander-Arnold’s stance on a January move has now been revealed.
The defender has given his current club no indication that he wants to move to the Santiago Bernabeu despite reports from Spain suggesting the contrary. The England star has been in talks with Liverpool for months regarding a new deal, while there is still hope that he will stay on Merseyside.
And while Alexander-Arnold has not given a definitive answer on his future, he did confirm that any talks would be conducted in private. He said: “I have been at the club 20 years now and I have signed four or five contract extensions… and none of those have been played out in public. This one won’t be either.”
Meanwhile, Liverpool boss Arne Slot has also spoken out on Alexander-Arnold’s future. The Dutchman offered a telling update after the defender found the net in the recent 5-0 win against West Ham at the London Stadium.

Amid the links with Real Madrid, he said: “He’s playing really well, scored a great goal and the way he celebrated his goal probably tells you enough, so I don’t think I have to say much more about it.
“I’m really happy with Trent, just as happy as I am with Mo and With Virgil, so for me there’s no difference. For the outside world, maybe there’s a bit more things happening around Trent in the media than with the other two, but yeah, I’m happy with all three of them at the moment.”
Kop legend Jamie Carragher sees the situation slightly differently however, believing the new update is a sign that the player wants out. He said on social media: “I love Trent as a lad & a player, but his team would’ve told Real Madrid to bid & also would’ve known LFC would turn it down. It’s to try & cover themselves when he leaves for free.”
In all, Alexander-Arnold has made 333 appearances for Liverpool since graduating from the club’s academy. In that time, he has won the Premier League, Champions League and a whole host of other trophies. He will hope to play a key role this weekend as Liverpool take on Manchester United at Anfield.
